New Baltimore Proceeds With Plans For Downtown Development

Building Will Be Demolished To Make Way For Mixed Use Project

Monday, Jan. 8 New Baltimore City Council approved the sale of two Washington Street parcels next to the old Stahl’s Bakery Building. One structure on the property will be demolished within two months of the sale’s close, according to the The Voice Newspapers. The vote was unanimous, and will allow plans for a new mixed-use project to proceed.

New Baltimore Waterfront LLC purchased the land for $60,000. In addition to the combination of retail and other spaces, the development will include parking and landscaping. The planned two-story structure will offer three loft-style living spaces on the second level, with retail shops on the ground floor.

The development owner, Joe Nahas of American Tradition Custom Builders in Sterling Heights, can sell the unit as condominiums if he chooses, per his contract with the city. The city retains the right to approve the building’s design, so construction cannot begin til approvals and permits are issues. The sale contract also stipulates that the development be complete with in two years of permitting.
