Company Donates Historic Schoolhouse to Northville Township

- Press release from Marjorie Banner, Northville Township Trustee Northville Township Historic District Commissioner

Veolia ES Solid Waste Midwest, LLC and its parent company have agreed to donate Thayer’s Corner Schoolhouse, located at the corner of 6 Mile and Napier Roads, to Northville Township. The generous offer saves for posterity one of the last one-room brick schoolhouses in Michigan.

The Northville Township Historic District Commission first approached Veolia and its Michigan Area Manager, Angelo
Caramagno, about the idea of donating the schoolhouse and the property on which it stands, several years ago. He was very receptive to the idea and attorneys for both Veolia and Northville Township have worked out the details. Formal presentation of the contract will be Thursday, July 19, at 7:30 p.m. during the regular meeting of the Township’s Board of Trustees. The Historic District Commission will then begin the process of cleaning and restoring the site.
