Northville Accepting Schools of Choice Applications For 2 Kindergarten Seats

Northville Public Schools is accepting Schools of Choice applications under Section 105 of the Michigan School Aid Act for the 2012-13 school year from students residing in other Wayne County school districts — within the Wayne County Regional Educational Service Agency — for two openings in the district’s half-day kindergarten section at , 48180 Nine Mile Road, in Novi. Applications will be accepted beginning July 11, 2012 through 4 p.m. on July 25, 2012.

The Northville Public Schools Section 105 (Non-Resident) Schools of Choice Application is available on the district website at www.northville.k12.mi.us. Completed applications must be mailed or hand delivered to the Northville Public Schools Human Resources Department, 501 West Main Street, Northville, Michigan, 48167, by 4 p.m. on July 25, 2012. The district is unable to accept electronic applications.

Should the number of applications received exceed the two openings specified for Section 105 Schools of Choice students, the school district will use a random draw (lottery) to select the applicants who will be considered for enrollment. If necessary, the lottery will take place at 8:30 a.m. on August 1, 2012 at the Northville Public Schools Board of Education offices, also located at 501 West Main Street, Northville, Michigan 48167. Families applying for open enrollment are welcome to attend the lottery drawing. Selected students will be informed regarding placement no later than August 8, 2012.

“The opportunity for a limited number of students from outside the district to open enroll in our half-day kindergarten section helps to meet the threshold necessary to offer a half-day option for Northville school families who value the program,” said Northville Superintendent Mary Kay Gallagher. “In order to support the district’s goal of excellence and equity for all students, the granting of choice is balanced with the need to provide equitable and appropriate enrollment at all of our schools. Final placement will be determined based on staff allocations, space availability and the number of applications received.”

Once a student is accepted to open enroll under Section 105, he or she will continue at Northville Public Schools until graduation or until he or she withdraws from the program. Placement for subsequent years of any out-of-district students who enroll in the half-day kindergarten program for the 2012-13 school year will be determined by available space across the district — not necessarily at Thornton Creek.
