Art From the Heart Program by Detroit Country Day School Turns 17

Student artists donated their original artwork bringing smiles to the faces of patients at the Children's Hospital of Michigan

Student artists at Detroit Country Day School (DCDS) have donated original artwork to the Children’s Hospital of Michigan to inspire joy and hope in the young patients and their families. DCDS and the Children’s Hospital of Michigan held a special ceremony to introduce the artwork. DCDS Headmaster Glen Shilling made the announcement.

“At DCDS, we are fortunate to have so many talented student artists across all grade levels,” said Shilling. “Our annual Art from the Heart Program allows students to share their creative abilities while also brightening the lives of young people at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan. We’re passionate about this program and the impact it has on patients—it’s an event our school community looks forward to every year.”

School officials and student artists unveiled this year’s Art from the Heart collection at a special dedication ceremony on Tuesday, October 15 at 10:00 a.m. at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan, located at 3901 Beaubien St., Detroit, MI 48201.

Since its introduction in 2002, Art from the Heart has become one of the most celebrated student programs at DCDS. Representatives from the Children’s Hospital of Michigan hand pick each piece from students in every grade level at the annual “Celebrate the Arts” festival hosted by the DCDS Friends of the Arts each spring. Since the program started, more than 525 pieces of artwork now line the hallways and patient rooms at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan.

Each year, DCDS Friends of the Arts provides a grant to frame the students’ creations and hosts the preview event for the student artists and their families. Friends of the Arts supports the Fine and Performing Arts curriculum, activities and programs of the students attending DCDS. For more information, visit www.dcds.edu.
