Driver Hits Northville Utility Pole, Charged With Operating Under Influence of Drugs

City of Northville police arrested a 23-year-old Novi man on charges of driving while under the influence of drugs on Nov. 2, after he hit a utility pole on W. Cady and S. Center streets.

According to a city police report, police found the man with slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and drooping eyelids. The officer also noted he could smell intoxicants coming from the vehicle.

When police asked him what happened, he told them he was blinded by an oncoming vehicle's brights and swerved into the utility pole. No witness could confirm that, according to the police report.

While on the scene, a police officer saw him drop something and kick it under the vehicle. Upon inspection, according to the report, the officer found that it was a small bag of marijuana.

The man told police he knew he was "in enough trouble already," according to the report. He told police he smoked marijuana earlier and took a shot of alcohol. He was charged with possession of marijuana and operating under the influence of drugs.

Additionally, the man was discovered to be driving with a suspended license and was charged for that too. He was taken to the hospital.
