Hutton Street Closing for Repairs After Years of Water Main Breaks
Hutton Street in Northville will be closing for about 60 days later this year, but the project should solve an ongoing problem.
City workers are planning to make improvements on Hutton Street’s sanitary sewer line and road pavements later this year.
The improvements will take place between Rayson Street and E. Dunlap Street, the Observer & Eccentric reports.
The Northville City Council awarded the $304,000 project to S&J Asphalt Paving Co. of Canton. It will take about 60 days to complete.

Public Works Director Jim Gallogly said that the project will remove an obstruction in an existing sanitary sewer line, repair or relocate the sewer, and replace Hutton Street paving between E. Dunlap and Rayson.
“In an effort to properly repair these roadway cuts and make spot repairs to areas of failing asphalt, the city annually bids out a ‘Permanent Utility Cut Repair Program’ whereby an asphalt contractor is retained to remove the cold patch or damaged asphalt material and properly place new hot mix asphalt,” Gallogly said.

The city of Northville experiences water main breaks yearly and each year temporary repairs are made using a cold patch material, Gallogly said.
There are 18 locations that need hot mix patching this year, Gallogly said.
“These repairs restore a smooth surface to a roadway and help extend the life of the road pavement,” he said.
In addition to the Hutton Street project, S&J will work on a $20,000 project this year funded by the Permanent Utility Cut Repair Program.
