I-96 Ready for Monday Morning Commute
The 7-mile stretch of interstate in Wayne County finally reopens after 5 months of construction.

For the past five months, a seven-mile stretch of Interstate 96 in west Wayne County has been under construction, much to the aggravation of commuters and other motorists.

At 8 p.m. Sunday, however, that area of I-96 officially reopened for auto traffic, the Detroit News reports. But earlier in the day, Gov. Rick Snyder, transportation officials and thousands of pedestrians and bicyclists were able to test out small stretch of the refurbished highway between Levan and Newburgh for two hours, the report stated.

The $148 million construction project repaved I-96 from Newburgh to Telegraph, fixing 37 overpasses, 28 ramps, as well as upgrading other parts of the highway, the report stated.
