Livonia Theater Presents Classic Play, To Kill a Mockingbird
Dramatic adaptation of Harper Lee's classic novel, the play explores timely themes of justice and integrity in a small southern town
Livonia Community Theatre will present a powerful dramatic adaptation of Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird, on November 17, 2017 at 7:30 p.m., November 18, 2017 at 2:00 and 7:30 p.m., and November 19, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. The performance venue is St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church, 27475 Five Mile Road, in Livonia.
To Kill A Mockingbird is recognized as an American masterpiece, exploring themes of racial equality, justice, and integrity as seen through the eyes of Scout Finch, an eight-year old girl growing up in Alabama during the 1930’s. “It seemed to me that we’re struggling with many of these same issues today,” said Pat Hutchison, Director of this production, and Artistic Director of Livonia Community Theatre. “I wished there was a way I could shed some light on world events, and when someone mentioned this play to me, it seemed like a perfect fit.”
Actor John Sartor (Plymouth) who plays the role of Atticus Finch, a small town attorney and Scout’s father, finds his character’s moral strength and integrity “very inspiring.” Finch “teaches his children by example to do what’s right, even if that goes against the majority.” Sartor believes the character of Atticus Finch “reminds us of the potential we have as a human race, a potential that is woven into our souls.”

Hutchison agrees. “If you wonder how one person can make a difference, Atticus Finch, a quiet man from a small town, shows the way.”
For the role of Scout, Hutchison was thrilled to find not only one, but two young actresses. The part has been double cast with Abby Borsodi (Redford) and Jema McCardell (Southgate). In a rare twist, the girls’ mothers, Rebecca Borsodi and Fiona McCardell, are cast as Jean Louise Finch, the adult version of their daughter’s character who narrates the play.
