Loaded Weapon Found in Carry-On Luggage at DTW: UPDATED
The gun, loaded with six rounds of ammunition, was the 23rd firearm discovered this year by at the Detroit Airport.

Transportation and Security Administration officials said a 34-year-old Lima, Ohio, woman at the Detroit Metropolitan Airport was arrested Wednesday morning after they found a .22 caliber Jennings firearm loaded with six rounds of ammunition in her carry-on luggage.

The gun was discovered during TSA screening in the North Terminal, according to WXYZ-TV. Police were notified and the woman was arrested.
Airport spokesman Mike Conway told WWJ that it’s legal for passengers to travel with weapons, but they must be in checked bags.

“When it’s in checked luggage, you as a passenger don’t have access to it during the flight,” Conway said.
The woman had a valid permit to carry a concealed weapon, “but you can’t — even with a permit — you cannot carry a weapon — anything that’s dangerous that could be used as a weapon, and a loaded gun definitely qualifies — onto an airplane,” Conway said.
The woman has been released from custody, and prosecutors are weighing charges.
The reports said 23 firearms have been discovered at the Detroit so far this year. Last year, 32 firearms were discovered in luggage at the airport during TSA screening.
