Local Novi Boy Finds Himself in Main Character of 'Wonder' Film

NOVI, MI- Last week the movie "Wonder" was released in theaters staring Julie Roberts and young star Jacob Tremblay. The movie is based off the best selling kids novel "Wonder" by Raquel J. Palacio. The book is about Auggie Pullman a fifth grader with an extremely rare facial condition known as mandibulofacial dysostosis. (Also refered to as Treacher Collins syndrome).

A local family from Novi, the Geers Melissa and Anthony have a 6 year old son Wyatt who has the same condition as the main protagonist of the film. Their son Wyatt, who was just as excited as his parents to see this movie. The Geers were happy to see a film that shed some light on the condition that until their son had been born, they hadn't known a type of condition like this had existed.

The Geers believe in order for people to be more accepting of what has happened with their son, it is good for these movies and media to exist to create a dialog and understanding of Treacher Collins syndrome.
