Man Convicted in Plot to Kill Teen's Family Retracts Sex Plea
Michael Rivera, serving life in prison without parole, will get a new trial on criminal sexual conduct charge.

A Detroit man serving life in prison without parole for conspiring with a Plymouth teen to murder her family has withdrawn his plea of guilty to having sex with an under-aged girl.
Michael Rivera, 24, said he wants a new trial on the criminal sexual conduct charge after Wayne County Circuit Judge James Callahan said sentencing guidelines call for a minimum of 30 months in jail, double the 15-month sentence he agreed to in the plea, the Detroit Free Press reports.

“I just can’t believe he had the nerve to do that,” Laurene Sikorski told the Free Press. “They’ve got overwhelming evidence against him, so I don’t know what he’s thinking.”
As Rivera texted her with instructions, she allegedly stabbed her then-12-year-old brother in the neck while the rest of the family slept as part of the plot in October 2014. The boy has physically recovered from his injuries.
Roksana Sikorski’s parents have said the teen, who was adopted from Poland, where she allegedly suffered horrific abuse, should not be tried as an adult.
Rivera’s new trial on the third-degree criminal sexual conduct charge will be held Jan. 11.
