Northville Actor Stars in Tipping Point Theatre's Latest Play

Jim Porterfield stars in "Deathtrap," now showing at the Northville theater.

In 1974, Northville resident Jim Porterfield performed in the play "Hello, Dolly" at .

Since then, he's appeared in countless plays and commercials far and near including Deathtrap, which is now showing at the . The Tony award winning play will be featured at the Northville theater until October 7.

Porterfield, an actor of 27 years, plays the part of a Broadway writer named Sidney Bruhl. His character finds a break in his writers' block by assisting one of his students with his manuscript. A series of twists and turns ensue in the comedy thriller.

"It's a genre people enjoy," Porterfield said. "It's an excellent play for its type."

The character Porterfield plays is different than others he has tackled in the past.

"He's an elite East Coast uppercrust playwright," he said.

Porterfield has performed in movies filmed in the Detroit area such as Kill the Irishman. He is also a resident artist at the Purple Rose Theatre in Chelsea.

"Hopefully, I entertain people," Porterfield said of his performance in the Tipping Point play. "And give people a good evening and give some laughs."
