Northville Businessman Designs New Buddy's Pizza
Carmine Martone, 40-year restaurant design veteran, led efforts to develop the new location.

The 10th and largest location of Buddy's Pizza, the family-owned and operated pizzeria that originated Detroit’s Sicilian-style square pizza, opened in Shelby Township last month with a new look.
Carmine Martone, owner of Northville-based Martone Design Studio, is an expert in 3D merchandising and led the design development of the new location.
“When we decided to open a new restaurant, we knew we wanted the venue to serve up a different atmosphere, but still give a nod to our Detroit heritage,” said Wesley Pikula, Buddy’s Pizza vice president of operations, in a news release. “That’s why we hired Carmine Martone. His reputation for good design with a Motor City edge is exactly what we wanted.”

Martone worked in the industry for 40 years and completed projects across metro Detroit like for Olga’s Kitchen and numerous YUM! brand restaurants, as well as Detroit landmarks like the Fox Theatre marquee and Tiger Plaza at old Tiger Stadium.
“Buddy’s is the perfect fit for us,” Martone said. “Our team is experienced in developing and maintaining design standards that can be manipulated to work across numerous venues. As Buddy’s continues to grow and expand across metro Detroit, they’ll be able to utilize the elements and features we’ve already put in place.”

The new Shelby Township location can be described as “authentic retro, with modern scale.” The restaurant, which spans more than 8,000 square feet will carry on Buddy’s Pizza’s legacy with strong undertones of automotive design and Detroit’s industrial history. It includes a main lobby, outdoor dining area, main bar, dining room, banquet room, carry out room, modern restrooms and kitchen.
Buddy’s Pizza in Shelby Township is located at 45841 Hayes Road, on the corner of Lakeside Boulevard, between 21 Mile and Hall roads. For more information, visit www.buddyspizza.com.
