Northville's Edwards Cafe Adds Fun Theme to Grub Crawl Mix

The spookiest holiday of the year may be three months away, but on Tuesday night channeled Halloween as its theme for the Grub Crawl.

About 300 people attended the event, said Northville Chamber of Commerce Associate Director Traci Sincock. The participants paid $30 to visit 11 restaurants around Northville. Edwards was the only one that decorated with a theme.

"We're been having a blast," said owner Chris Shelters. "This is my very best advertising. I get so many catered parties out of this."

Shelters explained that entertaining Grub Crawl participants with a theme shows them the cafe's versatility in catering events. Last year, the restaurant had a hoedown Western theme and the previous year decorated with a Candyland theme.

This year, the cafe was filled with various Halloween-themed stations. In one area, there was a fortune teller handing out coupons. Across the room, in a haunted laboratory area, soup in test tubes and other food was served. In another corner there was a haunted forest where one employee sat in camouflage waiting to surprise unsuspecting guests with food suggestions including vegetable skewers. All the while, other employees moved about and danced to the music.

"We've been planning since last year," Shelters said. "Too many people don't know Northville, that Edwards is here, that we cater these crazy events."
