Police: Alcohol May Have Been a Factor in Northville Rollover Vehicle Accident

City of Northville police say alcohol was possibly a factor in an early morning Aug. 12 vehicle accident that sent two people to the hospital.

According to police reports, a 24-year-old Grosse Pointe Woods woman may have driven through a flashing red light at the intersection of Eight Mile Road and Center Street. She struck a vehicle driven by a 35-year-old Roseville woman.

The Roseville woman told police she could not remember how many times her vehicle rolled before stopping a short distance from the intersection. She climbed out of the front passenger window, according to the report.

While interviewing the Grosse Pointe Woods woman about the accident, police noted that her breath smelled of alcohol and her eyes were glassy and bloodshot, according to the police report. Because of her possible injuries, police could not perform sobriety tests but said a blood sample would be taken at the hospital, according to the report.

The Grosse Pointe Woods woman told police she thought she stopped at the red flashing light and that the Roseville woman came out of nowhere, according to the report.

Both women were taken to Botsford Hospital is in Farmington Hills. The Grosse Pointe Woods woman's passenger was not injured.

The case will be forward to the Oakland County prosecutor.
