Relay for Life Changes Locations, But Not The Mission
Relay for Life of Novi-Northville has a new location this year. The event that has a goal of raising $54,500 for the American Cancer Society will take place at Novi Middle School.
The Relay for Life has a new location this year and it means more dollars will be available to help the American Cancer Society.
Moving the event to the Novi Middle School allows the organization to avoid the use charge that was associated with the Ford Field site, Christina Linn, ACS relay specialist, told the Observer & Eccentric.
“Theres no charge to use the middle school site unlike Ford Field,” she said.

Local event chair Ammie Childs began planning for this year’s event last October. During the Relay for Life, participants walk continuously around the track for 24 hours, showing their commitment to the fight against cancer.
This year’s event will start at 10 a.m. Saturday and will end Sunday at 10 a.m.

“Right now, we have about 13 teams,” Linn said. “We’ll probably have about 250 to 300 participants at the Relay.”
A survivors’ lap will take place Saturday, and at sunset, a luminaria ceremony will be held to honor those who are currently fighting cancer and in memory of those who lost their fights against the disease.
A new feature this year is entertainment, and Linn is currently trying to line up local performers. Reach her at Christina.Linn@cancer.org or (248) 663-3454. Additonal information can be found at the local Relay for Life site www.relayforlife.org/novinorthvillemi .
