Sheriffs Criticize Fed Recall of Armored Vehicles

Executive order calls for the return of tracked armored personnel carriers from local law enforcement.

An executive order from President Barack Obama is demanding the return of tracked armored personnel carriers to the Defense Department from both Oakland and Macomb county law enforcement agencies.

The controversial move is an effort by the White House to ease tensions between police and minority communities.

Many in local law enforcement and government, including Macomb County Executive Mark Hackel and Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard, see the move as shortsighted and potentially putting officers in harm’s way, The Oakland Press and The Macomb Daily report.
