Top Winter Home Selling Mistakes - Northville Real Estate Talk
What not to do when selling your Northville home in the winter. How to get top dollar and get your home sold quicker this winter.
It is sure cold out there today in Southeastern Michigan. Trying to sell a southeastern Michigan home whether it is a Northville home, an Allen Park bungalow, or a home in Royal Oak Michigan in winter is a little tougher. There just are not as many buyers out there braving the cold as there is in the spring.
Here are the top Winter home selling mistakes that a home seller can do.
1.) Keep the house chilly. If you keep the house temperature down when buyers are coming in they are automatically going to think that the house has expensive heating bills. That it is too costly to heat the home. So turn the heat up and do not be frugal when selling your Northville home.

2.) Have plastic on the windows. Having plastic on your windows automatically tells every home buyer that your windows are no good. So the buyer is going to be figuring out how much windows are going to cost. Putting in windows is not a do it yourselfer project. They will have to hire somebody and it is not a cheap project. So even if you have a slight draft out of a window do not put plastic on them.
3.) Close off rooms or turn off heater vents in rooms. If you shut off the heater vents or close off the room you automatically are telling the buyer that it is costly to heat your home. Do not do that. Keep your home at a comfortable temperature so the buyers want to stay in your home.

4.) Have insulation in the fireplace, or over windows. Again showing that you have a draft issue or a heating problem only hurts you. Put it away.
5.) Having ice dams and icicles hanging from the house. Go out and break them off.
6.) Not shoveling the walk and keeping the driveway and walkway clear of ice. If you do not take care of the outside you are telling the buyers that you do not take care of your home and you are not serious about selling. Make a good impression.
