Turning on the "Lights" for City Lights Chorus
Northville is home to a new a cappella chorus

Northville now has an a cappella chorus that seeks to inspire, engage and excite!
The City Lights Chorus is a brand new, male a cappella ensemble based in Northville.
Chapter President, Cody Harrell shares how the chorus was started. “The initial spark started with a chorus that was started in 2014 called “The Voice” youth chorus. After several years of success performing around the Pioneer District and at the Barbershop Harmony Society’s Midwinter Convention, we decided to take our chorus to the next level and start an all-ages-inclusive male chorus to raise the level of our entire district.

We are striving to be Michigan's premiere male chorus and spark something even larger than ourselves. We want a place for men to be able to sing and share in the joy of making music and being vulnerable together.”
He also adds there are people from all walks of life in City Lights Chorus. There are high school and college students, 20- and 30-somethings at the beginnings of their careers and members well into their 70s who have been singing their entire lives. There are music teachers and engineers and bus drivers--men from all walks of life. And that will continue well into the future. It is a chorus for all kinds of people.

Even with the chorus being in its infancy, City Lights Chorus has goals in place to keep the organization moving forward. Harrell states, “Our first goal is to compete in the BHS's International Convention in Los Angeles, California in July 2020 and represent Michigan. From there, we would also love to grow our membership of 35 to over 60 or 70 singers and continue to grow our chorus with singers from all around the state. We would also like to bring more people into our chorus that don't have a current singing outlet or that want to join one.
If we can connect the different communities of artists throughout the state in harmony, we will have achieved even more than we have dreamed so far.”
There is an opportunity to see this fresh new ensemble. City Lights Chorus will present their first concert called “When You Believe” on Sat. March 23, 2019 @ 7pm at Ward Church in Northville. Tickets are available at www.citylightschorus.com.
