7 Steps for Proper Tooth Brushing

Do you brush your teeth correctly?

Brushing your teeth is an integral part of your daily routine. What if you aren't doing it correctly?

October is National Dental Hygiene Month. The Michigan Dental Association offers these seven steps to insure your daily brushing is as effective as it can be.

1. Choose a toothbrush that is small, soft and fits in your mouth. Choose toothpaste that tastes good to you. A toothpaste with fluoride is best.

2. Place your toothbrush at an angle to your gums.

3. Move your brush back and forth gently in short strokes.

4. Brush the outside, inside and all chewing areas.

5. Clean the inside of your front teeth using the end of your brush.

6. Brush your tongue to keep your breath fresh.

7. Brush for at least two minutes. Find a favorite song and sing it while you brush. Visit www.2min2x.org for fun two-minute brushing music and video downloads.
