Novi Receives Budget Presentation Award for 17th Year
The award recognizes how effectively a city presents its budget.
The City of Novi's budget has earned the city the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded Novi with this recognition for the 17th consecutive year. To receive the award, the city satisfied nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These assess how well the city’s budget serves as:
- a policy document
- a financial plan
- an operations guide
- a communications device
The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting. Documents submitted to the Budget Awards Program are reviewed by selected staff members of the GFOA, a nonprofit professional association, and by outside reviewers with experience in public-sector budgeting.
The City of Novi also earns recognition for its financial reporting. The financial reporting prepared by Novi staff is completed soon after the fiscal year closes to assist city leadership in policy making. The city prides itself in a long history of fiscal transparency via televised council and commission meetings, public budget sessions and a comprehensive website.
