Staff Notices Burning Smell at Novi's Deerfield Elementary
The fire department came to the school Friday.

There was an electrical issue at Novi's Deerfield Elementary School Friday morning, according to an email from Principal Julie Bedford.Â
Staff smelled a strong smell of burning wire from the building's server room, the email said. Bedford said they turned off the power to the server and the smell stopped.
Students did not evacuate the school, at 6500 Wixom Road, but the fire department and district tech-team did arrive to assess the situation. The burning smell was caused by a battery that backs up the system, according to the email.
The equipment was fixed and was no longer an issue.
