Future Of Lakeshore Park Debated

City leaders and residents are working to come up with a plan for updating and upgrading the 600-acre park.

NOVI, MI — Infrastructure upgrades, like a paved parking lot and improved bathrooms, are coming to Novi’s Lakeshore Park. But there’s also budget to build a community building and add other amenities.

The question is, what should be added and where should it go? City leaders and residents recently took the first step in answering those questions at a recent meeting. The idea was to create consensus after a plan for the 600-acre park on Novi’s northern edge was scrapped earlier this fall, according to a Novi News report.

“It’s a clean slate today,” said Sheryl Walsh-Molloy, director of communications for the city of Novi. “We’re here to discuss what you’d like to see as we move forward with enhancements to the park.”
“What is it that makes Lakeshore Park what it is? It’s snowshoeing and cross country skiing in winter. It’s sledding down the hill,” said Tom Harvey, who opened the comment session. “Walking in Lakeshore Park is like walking up north, before subdivision sprawl ... Lakeshore Park is about being outside. A building is about being inside.”
