Naval Academy Admissions Briefing

information about Academy life, the admissions process, and summer programs for high school students

Do you like being challenged intellectually, physically, and morally? Are you interested in serving our country as an Officer in the United States Navy or Marine Corps?

On Sunday, November 18th at 1:00 representatives from the United States Naval Academy will be at the Novi Public Library (45255 W. 10 Mile Road, Novi) to share information about Academy life, the admissions process, and summer programs for high school students. Midshipman Daniel Vela USNA ‘21, a Novi native, says, “Attending the Naval Academy is a great opportunity. You get to attend one of the top universities in the country, gain leadership experience, and serve our country upon graduation.”

Blue and Gold Officer John Vena ‘82 explains that attending the Naval Academy is not the typical college experience. “Midshipmen are expected maintain their academic status while participating in military training and athletics- whether intramural or at the Varsity level. These young men and women are special. They learn starting with their first experiences at Induction Day that to succeed they must give 100%, support each other, and stay focused on their goals.”

The Naval Academy offers summer programs for high school students to learn about the Academy. Rising 9th, 10th, and 11th graders interested in engineering and technical careers can apply to the Academy’s Summer STEM Programs. Rising Seniors can apply for the Summer Seminar program. The week-long program introduces applicants to the academic, athletic, and professional training that Midshipmen receive.

“I know I made the right choice attending the Academy,” comments Vela. “Every day presents a new challenge, even summer vacation. This summer I got to lead my own squad of Summer Seminar candidates and spend time on board a Fast Attack Submarine.”
