Novi High School To Celebrate MLK Day With Speaker, Program
The school is calling on students to celebrate the holiday as "a call to community action."

NOVI, MI – Students at Novi High School will honor the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. with a Unity in the Community program on Monday, Jan. 15. The event features guest speaker Dr. Deirdre Young, vice president, Health and Equity, for the United Way of Southeastern Michigan.
The program will begin at 7 p.m. in the Fuerst Auditorium in the high school at 24062 Taft Road. It will feature spoken word, song, dance and drama, in addition to Young's keynote.
Prior to joining United Way in 2016, Dr. Young was director of multicultural affairs at the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry. There, she focused on improving health care outcomes in underserved communities and provided leadership and oversight in the areas of diversity, inclusion and health advocacy.

"Our national holiday is not a day off. Our national holiday is a call to community action,” said Korey T. Nuckolls, a social studies teacher at Novi High and sponsor of Students Promoting Unity and Diversity. “We challenge each of you to model active citizenship"
