Novi is #2 in Best Michigan Cities List

A low crime rate, high home values and a generous median income are a part of what makes Novi great.

The Movoto Blog, of Movoto Real Estate, recently released its list of the 10 best cities in Michigan.

Novi's standing? Second place.

"A high median income—73 percent higher than the Michigan average—is one of the reasons why Novi placed so well in our ranking," reads Novi's ranking on the blog.

The blog has ranked cities across the country — the nerdiest, the worst-dressed, etc. — and is now ranking the best cities state-by-state. Michigan is the first state to receive this ranking.

Novi was selected as the second best city in Michigan, behind Midland and ahead of cities and townships like Canton, Ann Arbor and Royal Oak. See the full list.

What makes Novi one of the best?

The blog mentioned that Novi is often only known to outsiders as a place to shop, but is in reality much more than that.

It highlighted that home values in Novi are 92 percent higher that the state average and the median income is $80,151, which is 73 percent higher than the Michigan average. Another plus that the blog cites is that Novi's crime rate is 35 percent lower than the state average.

Where did the rankings come from?

The 50 most populated cities and townships in Michigan were each given a rank from one to 50 for specific criteria, which was then averaged to get an overall score. The cities with the best scores made it onto the list.

The Movoto Blog used six criteria to measure the cities:
