Novi Police Arrest a Man on Charges of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol

The man was not driving at the time of the arrest, according to police.

Novi police provided this information. 

Novi police arrested a man around 4 a.m. Nov. 3 on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol, according to a police report.

Police were told about a man standing outside of a damaged vehicle at M-5 and Twelve Mile Road, the report said. The officer arrived when the vehicle was already loaded onto a tow truck, according to the report.

The driver of the vehicle said he was coming home from a friend’s house when he lost control of the vehicle after getting a flat tire, the report said, and the vehicle veered off the road before striking an embankment. He said he tried to change the tire but couldn’t and called a tow truck, the report said.

The officer smelled intoxicants on the man’s breath and noticed his eyes appeared bloodshot and glassy, according to the report. The man said he had nothing to drink, the report said. His preliminary breathalyzer test had a result of .138 percent blood alcohol content, according to the report. The legal limit is .08 percent.

The officer arrested the man. He has a hearing Nov. 25.
