Man Drives into Wall, Arrested on DUI Charges in Novi

Novi police arrested a man on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol at about 1 a.m. Dec. 9, according to a police report.
The driver of a gold 1994 Cadillac Deville struck a brick wall on the west side of Novi Road, south of 14 Mile Road, the report said. The car had heavy front end damage, causing its airbags to deploy, according to the report.Â
According to tracks in the snow, the driver appeared to have been heading northbound on Novi Road before losing control and leaving the roadway to the left where the car struck a tree and a retaining wall, the report said.Â

The driver, who initially contacted police, returned to the scene after walking to his girlfriend’s house to get his cell phone, according to the report. He said he lost control of the car on the icy roadway, the report said.Â
The officer could smell intoxicants on him, and the man said he had a few beers at his friend’s house, according to the report. His preliminary breathalyzer test had a result of .103 percent blood alcohol content, the report said. The legal driving limit is .08 percent.

The officer arrested him. He paid a $100 cash bond and has a hearing Dec. 23 at 52nd District Court, according to the report.Â
