Novi Students Return to School (Finally!)

The Novi district superintendent cautions parents and staff to be careful on the roads Thursday.

The Novi Community School District closed schools this week for three consecutive days because of the extreme cold and unsafe road conditions.

However, the extended winter break couldn't last forever and all schools will be open Thursday.

Superintendent Steve M. Matthews offered the following advice for parents and staff in an email across the district Wednesday evening:

1. Leave a little early. It will not be unusual to have some snow and ice on roads. Freeway off-ramps as still noticeably snow covered and slick.

2. Be careful. As I came to work today I saw four cars careen around like bumper cars because one car got hung up in some snow on the shoulder.

3. Welcome students back! Be enthusiastic.

4. Be prepared to reinforce routines.

"If you see a custodian or a maintenance worker tomorrow say thank you. They have been outside in this very cold weather getting our parking lots and sidewalks in shape. It has been a lot of work and they have done a great job," he said in the email.
