The 9,000-square-foot facility is slated for completion this fall and will serve as a training ground for surgeons and clinical staff worldwide, the Observer & Eccentric reports.
“We’re really excited about this because it’s bringing a vision we’ve had for some time and making it a reality,” Joseph Hurshe, chief operating officer of Providence West Region said.

The $3 million project was financed through donations, including one from the Art Van Elslander family.
“A broad range of expertise will be part of the advanced medical education and technology center,” said Judy Ahn-Ewing, director of neurosciences and project management at Providence Park.
The center, unique to the state of Michigan, will include labs for cadaver, temporal bone and skull based trainings, as well as a 50-seat auditorium for advanced surgical trainings.
Providence Park currently offers medical services such as orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery, women’s and pediatric services, a sleep center, as well as many other specialties.
“There has been a desire to have an onsite surgical training venue here to align with what we already have here,” Hurshe said.
The first phase of the surgical center is expected to be finished by Oct. 7 in time for the 45th annual neuroscience conference.
Providence is participating in the conference and plans to have it’s first training seminar in the surgical center. The seminar is expected to bring medical professionals from Asia and Europe.
