$7.7M Dequindre Road Project Topic at Public Meeting

The project will have a major effect on traffic in Oakland and Macomb counties during much of 2016.

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI – A public meeting will be held later this month in Rochester Hills to share information about a $7.7 million road project that will have a major effect on traffic in the area later this year.

Dequindre Road will be rebuilt from Burningbush Street to West Utica Road on the Troy/Sterling Heights and Rochester Hills/Shelby Township border. Construction is expected to begin in the spring and be completed by the end of 2016.

The meeting, organized by the Road Commission of Oakland County and Macomb County Department of Roads, will be held from 4 p.m.-7 p.m. at the Reuther Middle School Media Center, 1430 East Auburn Road, Rochester Hills.

There won’t be a formal presentation, but road department will be on hand answer questions in an open house format.

Federal transportation dollars will pay for $6.2 million of the project, with local jurisdictions picking up the following costs:

  • Road Commission of Oakland County: $380,000
  • Macomb County Department of Roads: $380,000
  • City of Troy: $250,000
  • City of Sterling Heights: $250,000
  • City of Rochester Hills: $120,000
  • Shelby Township: $120,000

The following improvements will be made to Dequindre:

  • Reconstruction of Dequindre Road from Burningbush Street to West Utica Road;
  • Two-lane sections will be widened to five lanes;
  • Traffic signal upgrades;
  • Improved drainage;
  • Operational improvements of the east/west legs of the Dequindre/South Boulevard/Dobry Street intersection.

During construction, one lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction. Utica Road will be closed at Dequindre and traffic will be detoured Most is currently five lanes & will be reconstructed.
