Cyclist Hit Teen Walking on Trail, Then Assaulted Her: Police

Cyclist "became angry" after he allegedly struck the girl with his bicycle and fell off while attempting to pass, police said.

Orion Township, MI — A 14-year-old girl walking with friends on Paint Creek Trail Saturday morning was assaulted by a man who fell off his bicycle, police said.

The teen and her friends moved to the left side of the trail to allow an approaching red mountain bike to pass them, but the cyclist accidentally ran into the 14-year-old girl, crashed and fell off his bike, according to a news release from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

“The rider became angry and was yelling at the girl. He then struck her on the left arm with a closed fist,” Undersheriff Mike McCabe said in the release. “He acted as though he was going to strike her again, but stopped and yelled at her to run.”
