
Grab your bike helmet and dust off your Schwinn because May 16-20 is Bike to Work Week in Michigan.
The League of Michigan Bicyclists, Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance and Michigan Mountain Biking Association are promoting Bike to Work Week in Michigan. The Michigan Department of Transportation is also promoting Bike to Work Week with a new video about the benefits of bicycling.
Earlier this month, the Michigan House of Representative passed House Resolution No. 77 proclaiming May as Bike Month in Michigan, and according to the League of Michigan Bicyclists' website, "Bike Month will culminate on May 25th at the State Capitol where all three organizations will co-host the Lucinda Means Bicycle Advocacy Day.

"The event is an opportunity for all cyclists across the state to join together with one voice to promote cyclists' needs to their local legislators."
National Bike Month has been celebrated each May for the past 55 years. Three bike rides have been organized in the Detroit area to commemorate Bike to Work Week on May 21, including a ride down Woodward Avenue through Royal Oak and Ferndale.
