Macomb Manhunt Ends: Homeowner Captures Fugitive Gunman

A Granger Road resident captured the man accused of shooting his estranged wife and another man during a dispute Tuesday, police say.

BRANDON TWP, MI – The hunt for a Macomb County man wanted for shooting his estranged wife and man during a dispute Tuesday ended when he was captured by a Granger Road homeowner on Wednesday evening, said an Oakland County Sheriff's Office spokesman. Michael Quigley, 34, was then taken into custody without further incident, police said.

Few other details of Quigley's capture were made available. A spokesman for the office said he did not have further details on what led to the homeowner capturing Quigley or what state the wanted man was in when taken into custody at about 5:20 p.m. Wednesday by Sheriff's deputies.

Police say that Quigley shot his wife, Stephanie, and a man during a domestic incident at an Ortonville apartment at about 8 p.m. Tuesday. After the attack, Quigley fled the scene, police said.

Earlier Wednesday, deputies and police authorities from around the region were running down tips regarding Quigley's whereabouts from citizens, a spokesman for the Oakland Sheriff's Office said. Quigley was considered armed and dangerous.

For that reason, multiple school districts in the area, as well as a public library, were closed Wednesday as a precautionary measure as police hunted for Quigley.

Quigley's wife, Stephanie Quigley, had previously – and unsuccessfully – sought to get a restraining order against her husband, according to a report in the Detroit Free Press. In her request, Stephanie Quigley cited his drug use and mental instability as reasons for the request. The judge in the case, however, granted the request for the protection order on Wednesday.

Quigley had no prior weapons- or violence-related charges against him, said Sgt. Randy Praski of the Oakland County Sheriff's Office.
