Mysterious Explosion Kills Orion Township Couple
An explosion and fire killed two Orion Township people Wednesday evening. Authorities have not determined the cause of the blast.
(UPDATED) ORION TOWNSHIP, MI — A Wednesday evening explosion and fire killed two Orion Township residents. Bruce and Kathy Dominguez died at about 8:30 p.m. while the couple’s adult daughter, 29-year-old Kim Dominguez, was rescued by a neighbor. Authorities have not yet determined a cause for the explosion.
The home, completely destroy in the blast, sits in the 400 block of Coats Road. Neighbor David Moen is credited with saving Kim Dominguez. The Detroit News reported that he went into the home and carried her to safety.
Bruce, in the same time gap that allowed his daughter to be saved, made two cellphone calls to friends telling them he was trapped in the rubble, but none to 911, said Orion Township Supervisor Chris Barnett.
But his next door neighbors did call. And their across-the-street neighbors called. And people from as far as two miles away called. "We have a tight-knit community," Barnett said.
