Oakland Schools Education Foundation Receives $87,000 Grant From Margaret Dunning Foundation

The Oakland Schools Education Foundation (OSEF) has received a grant of $87,000 from the Margaret Dunning Foundation to support local high school state-approved Career and Technical Education (CTE) Automotive Technology programs.

The funds will assist in providing equal learning opportunities to students participating in these valuable programs as well as allow Oakland Schools to update learning labs and equipment, plus provide instructors with professional learning and teaching opportunities.

“We are incredibly grateful to receive this grant from the Margaret Dunning Foundation,” said Oakland Schools’ Superintendent Dr. Wanda Cook-Robinson. “These funds will be crucial to continuing our mission of providing educational opportunities for students in Oakland County.”

There are 950 students participating in 12 CTE state-approved Automotive, Collision and Medium/Heavy Truck programs throughout Oakland County. These programs help prepare students to:

● diagnose, repair, maintain, refinish and detail vehicles and trucks.

● use industry diagnostic and repair equipment.

● use industry tools and materials to follow instructions and complete tasks.

● work alongside master technicians.

● gain employability and entrepreneurial skills.

● earn industry-recognized certifications.

About The Margaret Dunning Foundation

The Margaret Dunning Foundation was founded by Ms. Dunning in 1997. She was born in 1910 in Redford Township, Michigan, and moved with her mother to Plymouth, Michigan in the 1920s. During her lifetime, Ms. Dunning was a successful business woman, philanthropist and civic booster.

She was a major supporter of many Plymouth nonprofits, including the Plymouth District Library and the Plymouth Historical Society. In addition to her personal philanthropy, Ms. Dunning was a classic car enthusiast and a regular participant in the Woodward Dream Cruise with her 1930 Packard 740 Roadster. Ms. Dunning died in 2013 at the age of 104. Her estate provided additional funding for the Margaret Dunning Foundation, which continues to support her charitable interests and legacy.
