Oakland Township Named Third Safest Community In U.S.: Report
Three other Oakland County communities were also included in the list.
OAKLAND TWP., MI — Oakland Township has been named the third safest community in America by SafeWise, a group that uses FBI crime statistics and U.S. Census population data to rank cities in each state across the country each year.
SafeWise issued its report indicating Oakland Township's level of safety this week. Joining Oakland Township in the report are three other Oakland County communities: Commerce Township (No. 77), Independence Township (No. 95) and Oxford Township (No. 97).
The Oakland County Sheriff's Department patrols each of the four communities.

“Our team continues to shine, and everyone has worked incredibly hard during challenging times especially amidst the current pandemic,” Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard said in a statement. “Only six communities in Michigan made the top 100 list and four of the six are in areas where the Sheriff’s Office patrols. I cannot say enough about the good work our Deputies continue to do to ensure the safety of our residents.”
As part of its law enforcement services, the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office is the contracted police agency for 15 communities throughout Oakland County, which serves over 365,000 residents. The Sheriff’s Office provides support services for all 43 police agencies in the county.
