School Bus, Car Crash Leaves 1 Dead: Reports

Three children who were on the bus were not injured. The bus driver has gone to a hospital, according to a news report.

RAY TOWNSHIP, MI – A 37-year-old woman is dead after her car was hit by a New Haven Community Schools bus Friday morning, reported the Macomb County Sheriff's office. The crash occurred on North Avenue just south of 28 Mile Road.

The victim has been identified as Teresa Winquest, Ray Township. Two school children, one in middle school and one in high school, were on the bus and not injured, the sheriff's office reported. The children were picked up by their parents. The bus driver was taken to a hospital.

Winquest, who was driving a 2002 Buick Century sedan, was heading north on North Avenue at 6:30 a.m., according to police. She crossed into the southbound lane in front of the bus, and was struck. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

A stretch of North Avenue between 27 Mile Road and 29 Mile Road had been closed while police investigated. The road re-opened at 12:15 p.m. Drivers are asked to avoid the area and find an alternative route, police said.
