Witness Saw Beating Victim With Gun To His Head, Called Police

Oakland Township man beaten with a baseball bat during a home invasion; friend called police after witnessing crime unfolding.

OAKLAND TOWNSHIP, MI — A 54-year-old Oakland Township homeowner is expected to recover after he was hit at least three times in the head, legs and back with a baseball bat during a home invasion Saturday night, police said. Two people are in custody.

About 9:50 pm., a woman told police she had planned to meet the homeowner, who lives on the 5000 block of Ronnoco Road, but could see through the window that a male subject was holding a gun to the homeowner’s head as he lay on the floor, according to a news release from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

When deputies arrived, they found the suspect in the driveway of the residence and ordered him to stop,, but he fled the scene on foot, according to the release. The homeowner was found in the hallway of the home with “obvious injuries,” the sheriff’s office said. He was treated at the scene, then taken to Crittenton Hospital Medical Center in Rochester.

A second suspect was identified in the course of the investigation. According to the release, she had left the scene before deputies arrived in the victim’s Chevrolet Silverado pickup and took his credit cards, according to the release. Police said the victim knew the female suspect, but not the male.

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office in setting up a perimeter around the property while the sheriff’s office Aviation Unit provided aerial surveillance. The female was apprehended by police in Rochester, where a large quantity of cocaine was also found in her possession, police said.

The female, a 21-year-old Detroit resident, provided authorities with the name of her alleged accomplice. The man, 25, and also a resident of Detroit, was arrested around 2 a.m. Sunday at the Greyhound Bus Station in Detroit, according to the release. Police said he had the victim’s handgun, wallet and car keys in his possession.

The victim told police he was confronted by both suspects when he walked into his home.
