'Oh, It's So Cold, I Am Never Going to Sell My Home: Plymouth Real Estate Talk

How to sell your Plymouth home even in the coldest part of winter - Top winter home selling tips to help you get top dollar for a home

Today looks like it is going to be one of the colder days here in Metro Detroit. With temperatures just barely above the zero mark and wind chills below zero there will still be a few home buyers out there looking for homes. If they are looking for homes in this cold they are serious. They are going to buy.

So how are you going to make your piece of real estate in Plymouth Michigan stand out this winter. Curb appeal is still important in the winter. Sure you cannot do any painting or fixing of your landscaping at this point but a simple colorful winter wreath on your door will help your curb appeal.

The second home selling tip I have to give you is make your driveway and sidewalks safe. Shovel the snow and put a little salt down. You don’t want prospective buyers slipping and falling on your driveway. You want them to get in out of the cold easily and quickly. A clear safe path will make it easy for them to get in. Plus it gives them the idea that you take care of your home and want to sell your house.

The next item that is see on homes in winter is plastic on some of the windows. It does not matter if there is a slight draft there. DO NOT HAVE PLASTIC ON THE WINDOWS. You are alerting the Metro Detroit home buyers that the windows are bad. That is a strike against the house and the buyers will start thinking badly of your Plymouth home.

Temperature is key. If you walk around in a sweater and keep the heat down to 65, now is not the time to be frugal. If you want to present a good atmosphere for home buyers your Plymouth home needs to be comfortable. The temperature should be right around 70. Remember if they are coming in from the cold you want them to be toasty. They should want to stay in your home and not go out and freeze. You want a temperature that takes the chill off of the buyer. Not too hot, but not too cold.

Another little staging tip is to have the fireplace going. Nothing like the flames flickering in the fireplace to give your home that cozy feeling. Do not close off rooms and keep them cold as buyers will automatically think that the house is too expensive to heat.

I hope these winter home selling tips help you sell your Plymouth home quicker this winter. These tips will help you sell a home whether it is a Metro Detroit lake home or any home in Southeastern Michigan. Feel free to call me anytime with questions about selling your home.
