24-Hour Soccer Exhibition, Relay to Benefit Rochester Woman

Diane Goethals has worked around the clock for Rochester-area children. Now, as she battles breast cancer, the community plans to work around the clock for her.

The Goethals 24-Hour Challenge, which kicks off at 4 p.m. Saturday at the main stadium at Rochester High School, will feature a rolling soccer game and a relay run/walk and will end at 4 p.m. on Sunday.

The event is seeking between 600 and 700 soccer players to play about an hour apiece during the 24-hour event, as well as local runners and walkers to make rounds around the track. The goal of the event is to raise money to assist the family with medical, school and personal expenses.

Goethals has dedicated her time to local track and soccer programs, PTA and Rochester High School, according to Catherine Grekowicz, who is helping to organize the event.

As of Friday evening, the event had raised $41,404 in donations of its $50,000 goal. For more information and to donate to the cause, click here.
