The death of Matthew David Lyzen, 23, has been ruled a suicide, The Oakland Press reports. A handgun was found near his head, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

Lyzen disappeared after Rochester’s Fire & Ice Festival earlier this year. His body was discovered in a wooded area by a worker who was clearing property on the 300 block of Hacker Road on Friday, Sept. 5.

When he disappeared, his mother, Becky, worried he might have harmed himself because he was depressed.

At the time, servers at several posh restaurants around the area said he had recently dined alone at those establishments. One, who works at Sumo Sushi, told The Oakland Press she remembered Lyzen because he left a “ridiculously large tip.” His mother said he was normally a “five-dollar pizza” guy.

For several months, family members posted on a “Find Matt Lyzen” blog and on a similarly named Facebook page.

Funeral arrangements are pending at Pixley Funeral Home in Rochester.
