Boy Scout Creates Fishing Dock at Rochester Municipal Park

Rochester High School senior Victor Hibbeln wants everyone to be able to enjoy the fishing at the Rochester Municipal Park's pond.

So he built a special dock to make it happen. Victor is a Boy Scout, and to attain Scouting's highest rank — Eagle Scout — he needed to complete a community project. Past Eagle Scout projects in the community have been at the Rochester Community Garden and Veterans Memorial Pointe. 

Victor, of Troop 125 in Rochester, said he built the special dock "so that the handicapped, elderly and children can enjoy the pond and have a comfortable place to fish from."

The dock has a 6-inch curb around the edges to make it safe for wheelchairs, he said. In the spring, the city of Rochester will install a cement walkway that leads to the dock. 

Victor received discounted supplies from Dillman & Upton and an "expertly drawn plan" from Bloomingdale Construction. 

Victor is in the process of raising money to cover the cost of his project: about $1,400. Anyone wishing to donate can send a check to Victor at 536 W. Third St., Rochester, 48307.
