Contractor Works To Bring Silverdome Down
Sunday's failed implosion has Adamo Group back on site Monday trying to figure out what went wrong and how best to knock the 'dome down.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — One way or another, the Silverdome is going to come down. That’s the word from the demolition contractor, Detroit-based Adamo Group, according to a WWJ-Radio report.
The 1975-built stadium was scheduled for implosion early Sunday morning. Explosives went off around the Silverdome as planned and plumes of smoke billowed out, but the 400,000-square foot structure withstood the blasts and didn’t collapse.
A call from Patch to Adamo Group for an update on the demolition was not returned.

Pontiac Mayor Diedra Waterman told WWJ the company planned to investigate the failed implosion Monday and determine if additional explosives would be needed or if they would knock the Silverdome down manually with an excavator.

The Pontiac Silverdome closed in 2002 when the Detroit Lions moved downtown to Ford Field. Over the years, it hosted a Superbowl, countless music stars — from Elvis to Madonna and Bob Seger — World Cup Soccer and even the Pope.

The complete demolition of the Silverdome site will take about a year, WWJ reported. No plans for the site have been announced.
