Convicted Murderer Found Dead Hours Before Sentencing: Reports

Kevin Wiley faced life in prison for the death of his girlfriend.

PONTIAC, MI – A man, convicted for the murder of his girlfriend, committed suicide just hours before he was to be sentenced, according to multiple media reports. Kevin Wiley, 35, was found dead in his cell at the Oakland County Jail early Monday. Reports indicate he hung himself with a sheet.

Wiley, who was due to be sentenced on Monday for the April 2016 murder of Marie Colburn, was not on suicide watch prior to his death, according to a report in the Oakland Press. Attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.

Wiley was convicted in June of Colburn's death. He was on parole for prior convictions at the time of Colburn's death. On Monday, he was to be sentenced to life in prison for her death.
