Deputies Responding To Car Crash Discover Vehicle Is Reported Stolen

Oakland County Sheriff's Office Deputies discovered the 2015 KIA Optima involved in the crash was reported stolen out of Waterford.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — A car crash investigation quickly turned into a stolen vehicle investigation, according to a police report.

On Jan. 31 at 1:52 a.m., a 2015 KIA Optima reportedly suffered extensive damage upon hitting a fence in a shopping plaza in the 1600 block of Perry St. in Pontiac, according to a police report. Oakland County Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to the scene and spoke with the driver, a 68-year-old Pontiac man, who was the only occupant of the vehicle. The man said he he lost control and struck the fence due bad weather, according to Deputies. Paramedics medically cleared the man.

When Deputies made an inquiry with the Michigan Secretary of State, they discovered the KIA had been reported stolen out of Waterford Township, according to the police report. Detectives from the Auto Theft Unit spoke with the suspect, who was subsequently lodged at the Oakland County Jail pending charges, Deputies report.
