Farid Fata, the oncologist charged with deliberately misdiagnosing patients and unnecessarily administering chemotherapy to patients in remission as part of an elaborate Medicare fraud scheme, will remain in federal custody until Tuesday, WXYZ-TV reported.
According to the report, the government last week appealed Magistrate David Grant's ruling that Fata could be released under house arrest with electronic monitoring provided he surrender his passport and not have contact with any of his 1,200 patients. District Judge David Lawson upheld the magistrate's ruling on Thursday.
Fata lives in Oakland Township.
The report indicated Fata is expected to leave jail Tuesday after the court further decides the conditions of the doctor's bond.
