Paint a Miracle Presents "The Butterfly Circus"

On Sunday, November 4^th at 3PM at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Troy, Shelly Propson Tyshka, director of the Paint A Miracle Art Studio based in Rochester will present the award winning, 23 minute film, The Butterfly Circus.

The 2009 short, created by Joshua and Rebekah Weigal, is the story of a showman of a circus who leads his troupe during the Great Depression. Along the way they discover a man without limbs being exploited in a carnival sideshow and the encounter leads the man to hope for and search after a different life. The independent movie has received top honors at film festivals worldwide and is to be made into a full length feature film.

“I feel it is important to share this wonderful film with the community because it is so inspiring, not only for those who have disabilities but for everyone,” said Tyshka, the director of the Paint a Miracle Studio, a studio and gallery for persons with disabilities to create and sell their artistic work in a variety of mediums including painting and drawing, ceramics, and fiber arts.

Paint a Miracle was founded in 2002 by Dr. Dale Propson, his wife, and their four children after an auto accident left Propson with a traumatic brain injury. In 1995 he met local artist Helen Cuniff who changed his life by helping him overcome his disabilities through months of art lessons.

“Our goal is to enrich the quality of life for children and adults living with disabilities through their participation in the visual arts,” said Tyshka.

After the film presentation, Tyshka will briefly discuss the mission of Paint A Miracle. Note cards and prints by Paint a Miracle artists will be available for purchase.
