Stonewall Pumpkin Festival

Carve a pumpkin; put it on the wall.

That's how the annual Stonewall Pumpkin Festival at the Rochester Hills Museum at Van Hoosen Farm works: guests carve their jack-o-lantern during a daytime festival and then return at night to see them shine along the museum's wall.

This year, the festival is planned for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 13. The nighttime show will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Last year, 1,100 pumpkins adorned the wall; this year, organizers are hoping for even more pumpkin-carving fun.

Here's what you need to know to plan for the popular event:

• Activities: Hayrides, the Dinosaur Hill "Pioneer Playground," music, art projects and a hay jump.


• The scarecrows: they are being made right now by local organizations and will be on display around the festival grounds.


• Book readings: Patch writer Laura Cassar will read her , which is based on this event, at noon. At 12:15 p.m., Danny Glazier, author of If I Had 100 Pockets, will read his book.


• Tours: You'll be able to check out exhibits inside the museum's dairy barn.


• Cost: $7 per person for the daytime festival includes a pumpkin; kids 2 and under are free. The nighttime show is free, but guests are encouraged to bring gently used gloves and hats for the Rochester Area Neighborhood House.
