What if the Friends of the Rochester Hills Public Library’s Holiday Home Tour didn’t happen again?
Yes, the 2020 version was scrubbed because of the pandemic but the Friends group thinks with the Covid-19 numbers heading downward, the Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021 event is worth saving.

The dilemma? So far only one home festooned for the season has volunteered. And at least four more are needed to give it a go. We’re looking for homes in Rochester, Rochester Hills and Oakland Twp., the communities the library serves.

The requirements are simple: You want to showcase all your great Yuletide ornaments, Christmas trees, Nativity displays, indoor light spectaculars and one-of-a-kind family keepsakes. You’ll allow your home to be open to Holiday Home Tour ticket buyers from about noon to 5 p.m. that Sunday. The Friends buys insurance that covers against things that could go wrong. Docents are stationed to explain details of your special stuff to visitors. Parking is orchestrated by volunteers and homeowners selected get a nifty professional photograph of the outside of their abode as a keepsake.
Kay Galetto, the Holiday Home tour chair, has spoken with previous homeowners who participated and says “they all had a lot of fun.” She has first-hand knowledge too---she opened her home for a previous tour.
Interested in keeping a Rochester area tradition alive? You can email Kay Galetto at buffyisretired@wowway.com or call the Friends recorded line at 248-650-7176 and leave your name, phone number and email address and you’ll be contacted promptly.
